Messages
Here you can learn how to write and send messages. Therefore you find information on how to format messages, add emojis or mention other users. Other message functions that you can find in the message context menu are also explained in detail.
Send messages

- Open a group chat or private chat that you’d like to send a message to.
- Click the message input field.
- Type your message and add any emoji, mentions or formatting that you want.
- Press Enter or click the Arrow to send it.

With shift + enter, you can jump in a new line.
Read new messages
A bold group chat or private chat in your chats list means that there are unread messages in the conversation. Click or tap the bold conversation name to view the unread messages.
Because mistakes happen, it is possible to edit and delete messages in Famedly.
Open the Context Menu for Message Functions
Editing messages will only be available if you are not a TI-Messenger user since editing messages is not allowed on TI-Messengers.
The Quick Menu (Desktop Devices Only)
On desktop devices, you can access quick options by hovering your mouse cursor over a message.
There you will find the following options:
- A quick selection for 👍 and 👎 emoji reactions.
- A button that opens an emoji selection for reactions.
- An arrow left button to reply to the message.
- A pen button to edit the message (only for your own text messages).
- A button to copy the message (only for text messages).
- A download button (only for files such as videos, documents and audio content including voice messages).
- A ⠇ button that opens the full message context menu.
The Full Context Menu
In the message context menu, you will find the following options:
- Read: Open a list of read receipts from other users.
- Copy: Copy the entire content of the message.
- Add to Notes: Forwards the message to your Notes. If you have not saved any notes yet, Notes will now appear pinned at the top of your chat list.
- Reply: This allows you to write a reply to a message. The message you are replying to will be partially displayed above your message. When you tap on it, it will scroll up to the original message.
- Edit (only for your own text messages): When you choose to edit and send the message with changes, the text edited will appear in the bottom right.
- Forward: This allows you to forward a message to another chat.
- Delete (only for your own messages): Delete a message; it will then be displayed as a deleted message without the original content.
- Report offensive content (only for messages from other users): You can report offensive content.

On desktop devices, you have two ways to open the context menu:
- Open the full context menu via the quick menu:
- Move your mouse cursor over the message.
- A menu with quick options appears below the message.
- In this menu, click on the 3 dots ⠇ on the right to open the full context menu.
- Click and hold the message to open the full context menu.
For text messages, tap on the message, and for media messages (images, videos, or files), tap and hold.
Edit a message
You can only edit messages if you are not a TI-Messenger-user since editing is not allowed in TI-Messengers. Also you can only edit your own messages.

- Move the cursor over the message you want to edit.
- Click the Pencil icon.
- Edit your message in the text field.
- Click the Send icon to finish.
- Tap the message you want to edit.
- Tap Edit to make changes.
- Edit your message in the text field.
- Tap the Checkmark icon to complete the process.
Delete a message
By default, any user can delete their messages.
Deleting a message is permanent, so please proceed with care.

- Click the Delete.
- Click Yes to confirm.
- Tap the message you want to delete.
- Tap Delete to delete the message.
- Tap Yes to confirm.
Reply to messages
The reply function allows you to reply to a specific message in group chat or private chat.

- Hover over the message you want to reply to.
- Click the Arrow left icon in the quick menu.
- Enter your reply in the textfield.
- Press Enter or click the Arrow to send reply.
- Tap the message you want to answer.
- Tap Answer.
- Enter your reply in the textfield.
- Tap the Arrow icon to send reply.
Add emojis to your messages
Emojis are a reference to common emoticons. In Famedly, emojis are both entertaining and practical for more efficient work: Use emojis to enhance their messages or add emoji reactions to a message for quick response.

- Open a group chat or private chat that you’d like to send a message to.
- Click the emoji icon on the left side of the message input field. If you can't find the icon or can't open the emoji picker, you can also use the native emoji keyboard on MacOS or Windows.
- Select the category you want to pick emojis from in the emoji picker by clicking on the icon.
- Select the emojis you want to add to the message by clicking it.
- You can still type in text with your keyboard when the emoji picker is open.
- Press Enter or click the Arrow to send the message.
- Tap the message box to open the keyboard.
- Tap the Emoji or Globe button on the keyboard.
- Tap on an emoji to add it to your message.
- Use the native emoji keyboard of your system to insert an emoji.

React to a message with an emoji
Often a message can be replaced by an emoji reaction. You can long-press reactions in a conversation to see who added them.
Add reactions

- Hover over the message you want to add a reaction.
- For 👍 or 👎 just click the emoji, for more emojis click the Emoji icon.
- Select a frequently used reaction from the menu, or tap the + Plus symbol to search for another one.
- Tap the message to which you want to add a reaction.
- Select a frequently used reaction from the menu, or tap the + Plus symbol to search for another one.
Remove reactions
Simply click or tap on the reaction to remove it from the message again.
You can only remove your own reactions.
Mention someone in a message
Mentions allow you to directly notify people about something that requires their attention in Famedly. Learn how to mention people in your messages.

- While you are writing a message, type the @ symbol.
- Enter a member's name or select a member from the member list. You can repeat this step for each person you want to mention in your message.
- Send your message.

Only members of a group chat or the person within the private chat can be mentioned. If you want to mention a person who is not a member of the group, this person must first be added to the group.
Forward messages

- Click and hold the message you want to forward.
- Click Forward message.
- Select the room you want to forward the message to.
- Long press on the message you want to forward.
- Select Forward message.
- Select the room you want to forward the message to.
Report message content
The message will be reported to the admin of your Organization.

- Click Report content.
- Long press on the message you want to report.
- Tap on Report content.
Check who read a message
- Desktop

- Click and hold the message you want to get the read status.
- Click Read by.
- Tap the message you want to get the read status.
- Tap Read by.
Copy messages

- Select and copy text fragments from messages:
- Place the cursor at the start of the text you want to select.
- Click and hold the left mouse key, then quickly move the cursor to the end of the text you want to select.
- Release the mouse key and press Ctrl+C (Windows) resp. Cmd+C (MacOS) to copy the text.
- To paste the text in the text input field, just select the input field and press Ctrl+V (Windows) resp. Cmd+V (MacOS).
- Copy a whole message:
- Click and hold the message you want to copy.
- Click Copy.
- To paste the text in the text input field, just select the input field and press Ctrl+V (Windows) resp. Cmd+V (MacOS).
- Tap on the message you want to copy.
- Tap on Copy.
- To paste the text in the text input field, do a long press on the input field and tap on Paste.
Add to Notes
You can save messages and media from other conversations by adding it to Notes.

- Click and hold the message you want to save.
- Now, choose Add to Notes from the list.
- The message will be saved in a private chat named Notes.
- You can click the Go to Notes button that appears at the bottom of the window (which will disappear after a few seconds), to check.
- Tap the message you want to save.

- You can click on the Go to Notes button that appears at the bottom of the screen (which will disappear after a few seconds), to check.
The Notes chat will be created and become visible only after saving your first message with the Add to Notes action.
Messaging yourself
Other than saving messages or media from other group chats or private chats, you can use this chat to send messages and media. But, only you have access to it.

- Make sure you are in the "Chats" section.
- Click the Notes chat pinned at the top.
- If you can not find the Notes chat, add a message to the notes as described above so the chat will be created.
- Here, you can see all the messages and media you saved from other conversations.
- Now, you can send a message or share a file.

Format your messages
Formatting helps add detail and clarity to your messages in Famedly. You can use markup language and surround text with special characters.
When using Famedly on your desktop or mobile, you can format your messages with these markup commands.
